DEMOLITION TO DELIVER A BEAUTIFUL HOTEL RENOVATION
McGee has been appointed by Future 54 Project and Cost Management specialists, on behalf of London + Regional Hotels, to deliver the demolition works at the former Radisson Blu Portman Hotel, located at 22 Portman Square in Marylebone, London.
Completed in 1969, the existing building is formed of two hotel towers situated above a podium building. McGee will deliver the soft strip, asbestos removal and demolition works as part of the sensitive refurbishment and extension of the existing Hotel to improve its overall appearance, provide a better environment at street level and improve the facilities and bedrooms for guests and staff.
We began work on the project in April 2019.
Works will comprise the partial demolition of the 1st and 2nd floor slabs to form a new atrium; demolition of internal staircases for new access routes; demolition of the existing plant room on the rear terrace to allow a new gym to be constructed, and soft strip and demolition of non-load bearing walls on all floors to allow a revised layout.
The proposed Hotel retains the existing towers, repositions the podium and extends the towers to form a distinctive loggia at roof level.
We expect to complete our works by September 2019.
The Hotel and Restaurant will be a new addition to the Nobu brand and will be operated by London + Regional Hotels.
The hotel will have 249 bedrooms and suites, reduced from its current 272, as well as a Nobu restaurant, ballroom and meeting facilities. David Collins Studio is on board completing the front of house interior design, whilst Make Architects carry out the guestroom interior design. The Nobu Hotel London Portman Square is set to open in Spring 2020 in the city’s West End, joining its sister hotel in Shoreditch.
