A project requiring work to be undertaken in a live station environment

Hines UK formed a joint venture with Network Rail and London Underground to deliver almost 400,000 square feet of prime office space, new retail amenities and incorporating the redevelopment of two previous office buildings.  In addition, Cannon Street Station – one of London’s busiest transport hubs which serves 27 million passengers a year – was also to be redeveloped.  The renovation to the station incorporated the upgrade of facilities such as ticketing, restroom amenities, new shops, a new concourse and brighter station for passengers.

Phased between 2007 and 2010, McGee was enlisted to deliver a scope of works in coordination with Laing O’Rourke (Main Contractor), Network Rail, London Underground and other trade contractors.

McGee’s challenge was broken down into five key stages – as outlined by the scope of works – and involved the demolition of the existing 16-storey and 9-storey office buildings as well as much of the underground stations and station roof.  The careful coordination of the project programme allowed the phased demolition, enabling works and new construction to take place in a live station environment.

McGee is exceptionally proud to have been a part of this high-profile project – without the expertise and industry know-how from all involved, the project could not have been achieved.
