MCGEE HELPS TO DELIVER THE FINAL JEWEL IN THE CROWN AT NEW STREET SQUARE

On behalf of Developer, Land Securities, McGee has completed the complex demolition of the existing buildings located at 75-76 Shoe Lane and the 18-storey building at 1 New Street Square, in readiness for the new Skanska development – the final jewel in the crown of the landmark New Street Square development.

Our work on the project commenced in early 2013 which initially saw the completion of the enabling works, soft strip and asbestos removal. The subsequent demolition of the existing buildings was carried out in a traditional manner – on a floor-by-floor basis.

Environmental considerations are always a priority on McGee projects.  During the demolition phase of works, the introduction of a low impact hammer attachment helped provide a high impact force with a lower impact vibration.

The project was the first to trial McGee’s bespoke ‘360° Mobile Visual Noise Indicator’.  The introduction of the monitor took noise monitoring above and beyond the industry’s best practice, improving health and safety at work and environmental monitoring.

Following the completion of the above ground demolition works, McGee was contracted to carry out the groundworks and substructure concrete works to make way for the development of new 20-storey office building comprising two basement levels.
