AN INTEGRATED DELIVERY SOLUTION FOR LODHA’S SUPER-PRIME RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE HEART OF LONDON’S MAYFAIR
1-3 Grosvenor Square is located in the Mayfair area of London and occupies a prominent position opposite the American Embassy and next to the Italian Embassy.
The development comprises the construction of super-prime residential apartments with provision for private parking spaces, a spa, and sports facilities, as well as the creation of a green roof at level 8 and courtyard gardens at ground floor level. It is also planned for part of the lower ground and ground floor levels to be used as a restaurant unit fronting Grosvenor Street.
McGee was awarded the contract for the demolition and dismantling works which involved the demolition of the existing building to the ground floor; disassembly of the historic façade, brick by brick, stone by stone, and the associated temporary works to support the adjacent boundary wall. The façade will later be re-built using the original/reclaimed materials as a non-loadbearing skin supported by a new concrete frame erected behind it.
Subsequent works included the demolition of the ground floor and basement slabs and excavation of the basement levels immediately up to the boundary with the Italian Embassy which has required us to draw on all of our stakeholder engagement experience and has resulted in a rare letter of commendation from the Embassy for our work.
In going above and beyond, the McGee site team delivered exemplary neighbourhood liaison for all phases of works at a challenging site in the heart of Westminster.
Following the delivery of the demolition and basement excavation works, we also delivered the substructure and 8-storey post-tensioned superstructure RC works on behalf of Main Contractor, Mace.
The site’s highly considerate performance across all parts of the Considerate Constructors Scheme’s five key cornerstones was recognised with a 2018 National Site Silver Award.
