A complex demolition, façade retention and groundworks project in the heart of Mayfair

Working on behalf of Main Contractor, Bouygues UK, McGee has completed the complex demolition, façade retention and groundworks at 29-30 St James’s Street and 25-27 Bury Street – it’s part of a prestigious redevelopment taking place in the heart of Mayfair by The Crown Estate, which will provide new apartments, retail and office space, to be delivered to the market in 2015.

McGee’s work on the project commenced in December 2013 which initially saw the completion of all pre-demolition works, soft strip and asbestos removal.

The demolition of the existing buildings was carried out in a traditional manner – on a floor-by-floor basis – all whilst retaining the historic front façades, which required bespoke temporary works to be designed and installed.  Piling, extensive groundworks and the installation of the reinforced raft slab also had to be completed to a tight programme to enable McGee to hand over the site so the follow-on works could commence.

The area is characterised by private members clubs, art galleries and niche retail, as well as offices and private residences, therefore carefully planned logistics, staggered ‘noisy’ times of work and the installation of noise, dust and vibration monitors across the site all helped ensure the neighbouring community was affected by the works as little as possible.
