One Nine Elms receives CCS 2016 National Site Award

McGee is delighted to have been presented with a Bronze Award at the recent Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) 2016 National Site Awards for the outstanding site standards during the demolition of One Nine Elms, Vauxhall, London in 2014/15.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme – the national Scheme which works to improve the image of the construction industry, presented McGee with the Bronze Award at The Mermaid, London on Thursday 28th April and was given within the category of sites with a project value of £5m to <£10m.

Over 3,500 guests from construction sites of all different sizes have attended award ceremonies during 11th -29th April at venues in Edinburgh, London and Manchester.  Out of the many thousands of registered sites, only c.900 were selected to win Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards – rewarding the top-performing registered sites that have demonstrated the highest level of considerate construction towards the public, the workforce and the environment.

Acting as Principal Contractor for client, Dalian Wanda, McGee carried out the floor-by-floor demolition of the existing Market Towers buildings during 2014/15.

Project Manager, Chris Foulser, said: “We were delighted to receive Bronze Award recognition at this year’s National Site Awards.  It is fantastic to be acknowledged for our commitment to improving the image of construction and our exceptional standards of work.

“We’ve hosted Exchanging Places events on site; salvaged and donated items for the benefit of the local community; we have supported charity through on site fundraising activities; and put innovation into action to ensure effective noise monitoring – it’s all been in a bid to go above and beyond minimum compliance.  The team has worked incredibly hard and we’re proud to receive national site recognition.”

Speaking on behalf of Wanda One UK Tim Gawthorn, Sales & Marketing Director, said “We are delighted that McGee have been recognised for their work at One Nine Elms. McGee have worked hard to build a good relationship with our neighbours and have held a variety of community events from Cycle Safety Awareness Days to Charity Bake Sales for Breast Cancer Awareness Day. We look forward to continuing to work with McGee as works continue at One Nine Elms.”

One Nine Elms continues to be transformed as the groundworks phase continues to make progress and the team are working hard to carry on leading the way with the highest levels of considerate construction.

Chris added: “As the project progresses we’re eager to keep up the momentum to ensure we keep up the high standards on our site.”

The end result will see over 50 storeys of skyscraper soar into the sky, offering residents unrivalled views of London’s most famous landmarks, including The Shard, London Eye and Westminster Abbey.  One Nine Elms will set a new standard for the city, offering luxurious private apartments alongside a world-class five-star hotel.

McGee’s 7-10 Hanover Square project in Mayfair was also recognised at the same awards ceremony, taking home a prestigious Gold Award. Read more on this here.
