We are proud to announce that McGee has won the GOLD Environment Award for Environmental Best Practice, showcasing our dedication to bringing sustainability to the forefront of the construction industry.
The McGee Social Value team competed against more than 1000 other nominations, coming out with GOLD for the project: “Construction to Community: The McGee Reuse Network”.
Hosted at the House of Lords in Westminster Palace on the 17th November 2025, Marc Byrne, Head of Social Responsibility, and Jayden Tabani, Senior Environmental Advisor, were presented with the trophy.
The judges commented:
“McGee connects surplus construction materials with community groups through a nimble, zero-cost model. A growing network of charities now reuses everything from plywood to drainage pipes for gardens, classrooms, and youth programmes. The scheme cuts waste, builds local relationships, and sparks culture change on sites—showing how simple coordination can deliver outsized social and environmental value.”
We would like to thank Rachel Schwartz from London City Farms & Community Gardens Association for her collaboration in launching The Reuse Network. Her support and dedication were instrumental to the scheme’s start and its continued success.
As a result of this Green Apple Award success, McGee has been invited to have our winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice. It’s an excellent opportunity to inspire others around the world to follow and learn from the achievement of The Reuse Network.
It also offers a chance to represent the United Kingdom in the Green World Awards 2026 and have 100 trees planted in McGee’s name as part of the United Nations Billion Trees initiative.
The Green Apple Awards began in 1994 and are organised by The Green Organisation – an international, independent, non-political, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
The Green Apple Awards are supported by the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institution for Wastes Management, REHIS and other independent bodies.
Congratulations to everyone involved in The Reuse Network, your efforts continue to set the benchmark for industry excellence!
