McGee is committed to leading the industry with how we engage with the environment and sustainability.

Recycling and reusing materials is part and parcel of how we operate. Recently, we’ve been championing a Circular Economy approach on many of our projects.

Substituting materials and advocating recycling is easy. Our strategy develops smart engineering solutions to offer the most efficient delivery.

Sustainability relies on being proactive. By continuously developing solutions to remove unnecessary materials from temporary and permanent construction, we can make a real difference to the built environment’s sustainability results.

Our specialist, Circular Economy approach allows you to do more with less – it uses what you’ve got to get what you want.

Our Data
All data from our operations is measured and recorded – including vehicle movements, site energy, and material consumption.

This wealth of data is enabled through our self-delivery offering to allow analysis and optimisation of our operations. It informs how we reduce our carbon impact and support carbon scenario planning for different delivery approaches.

The data also supports as evidence in Environmental Sustainability assessment tools, such as BREEAM and LEED.
Plant Emissions
Our plant and fleet is owned in-house and is a key part of how we deliver certainty for our clients.

Being London-based, we understand NRMM obligations and Direct Vision Standards; our fleet is specified accordingly with consistent investment to keep us at the forefront of sustainable operations.

Our fleet welcomed some of the first 5* DVS tippers and our new piling rigs all feature Euro V Engines. We’re progressively introducing hybrid excavators into our fleet, alongside our fully electric LGV delivery vehicle.

A series of tools and platforms collate and present carbon data specific to each of our projects. Each project is unique, with its own constraints and restrictions.

Using our experience and data trends, we propose sustainable solutions backed by evidence.
Materials
Our materials are responsibly and sustainably sourced wherever possible. We take care to gain responsible sourcing certificates, like the FSC Chain of Custody. Our supply chain is audited through the Achilles Accreditation System as well as our own internal processes.

Many of our land engineering sites operate under the CL:AIRE code – allowing over 95% of the soil and natural spoil arising to be reused from our activities.

Our recycling facility in west London – The Dye – can process and divert 98% of our operational waste from landfill.

As part of our continuous commitment to the circular economy, we actively work with keen clients to explore material reuse – even pioneering UK-firsts.
Carbon Reduction Plan
We’ve made huge changes to our business and continue to implement carbon reduction measures company-wide. Our recent conversion of key plant and haulage fleet to electric and hybrid is just the beginning.

In the last 10 years, we reduced a total of 100tCO2e/£m from our operations, taking our carbon intensity to 50tCO2e/£m.
