The McGee Group is a specialist engineering contractor with an expanding turnover currently in excess of £100 million.


Focusing on quality and innovation in the delivery of major demolition, piling, civil engineering and bespoke reinforced concrete sub and superstructure solutions.


McGee has been involved in several notable schemes in and around the capital such as Claridges Hotel Basement, HS2 and Battersea Power Station which have involved JCT, bespoke trade and NEC forms of contract.


This is an exciting time for the business as the family have recently moved ownership to an Employee Ownership Trust on behalf of and for the benefit of the Group’s employees.


With a strong reputation in our sector, built over 60 years, we’re now entering a new chapter with some of the best talent in the industry and we’re looking for an in house lawyer to join our rapidly expanding business.


Main Focus of Role

As the sole in house lawyer for the group you will be a valued advisor to the board and the wider business, helping them to make balanced decisions.


This will include providing advice throughout the construction process including:

  • Preconstruction and contract award
  • Project delivery
  • Dispute management

Providing legal advice on all contractual matters relating to projects, to ensure that the group is protected, and to bring commercial acumen in the finalising of the most advantageous contract terms.


Liaising with project teams to ensure they are managing the risk and opportunity balance from a contract and legal perspective.


Additional responsibilities will also include input on business compliance issues


About You

  • A qualified lawyer with at least 5 years PQE in the construction sector, either in house or private practice, with a good understanding of current forms of contract
  • Excellent personal communication skills (including an ability to explain legal concepts in plain English to non-lawyers).
  • An ability to contextualise legal issues within a business environment. Balance business objectives with legal risk.
  • Able to provide commercially focussed and pragmatic solutions to complex legal and contractual issues.
  • Ambitious to progress, grow and develop the role within an expanding business.
