On 19th October McGee was announced as the 2017 ‘Freight Transport Best Practice’ award winners in The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport’s CILT Annual Awards for Excellence 2017.
The networking event of the year for professionals involved in the logistics and transport sectors gathered at the Lancaster London Hotel to acknowledge and applaud the highest standards throughout the profession.
Fifteen awards were presented at the ceremony, which was hosted by journalist and broadcaster Michael Portillo.
Robin Proctor, President, CILT, said:
“This is one of the most important events in the CILT calendar. It allows us all to join in recognising the achievements of the brightest and best in our professions. The standard of entries to this event is ever increasing, this year making the judges’ roles harder than ever…”
For the second year in a row, FORS sponsored the ‘Freight Transport Best Practice’ Award which recognises companies for outstanding achievements in the movement of freight by road, rail, sea, or air within any sector.
McGee received this prestigious award for its work to remove more than 75,000m3 of earth from Leicester Square to create London’s deepest hotel basement, extending 30 metres – or six storeys – below ground.
Using a multi-faceted solution involving real-time vehicle tracking and re-routing, mobile apps and innovative technologies to ensure vehicles and public safety, as well as a ‘military style logistics plan’, McGee’s work was efficiently achieved with minimum disruption.
McGee has successfully retained its Gold status under the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) for the third consecutive year.
Anne Johnson, FORS Operations Director, said:
“We are delighted that the hard work and commitment of members has been recognised through nominations for these prestigious awards.”
John McGee, McGee Director, said:
“Being a finalist in the Freight Transport Best Practice Award category in these prestigious awards is a testament to the determination and expertise of our staff. Together they’ve driven the highest standards in delivering freight transport best practice, underpinning our success in being able to self-deliver many of the UK’s most high profile and challenging projects, safely, on time and within budget.
“We are immensely proud of winning the Freight Transport Best Practice Award that recognises our talented teams – both on and off-site. It is an incredible achievement and we will continue to be committed to safety, environmental impact and efficient fleet management whilst continually reviewing our vehicles, driver behaviour and processes to ensure we continue to deliver industry best practice.”
Kevin Richardson, Chief Executive, CILT, said:
“Congratulations to all of this year’s winners. The standard of entries gets higher every year and we hope that the awards you received tonight allow you to raise not only the profile of yourself and your organisations, but also the profile of our great profession.”
