Demolition of the former Hempel Hotel behind the listed stucco façades
Following the successful delivery of 18-20 Craven Hill Gardens, the contract to carry out the enabling and demolition works on the former Hempel Hotel, located at 31-35 Craven Hill Gardens, was awarded to McGee in 2013.
Up until closing and being sold, the hotel was a small luxurious 5-star boutique hotel, designed by sixties actress-turned-hotelier, Anouska Hempel. The famous hotel was bought by developer, British Land, who plans to convert it into 18 new high-end luxury homes in conjunction with Amazon Property; to be delivered to the market in 2016.
The method chosen to execute the project was specifically geared to minimising the impact of our works on the adjacent neighbouring buildings and the wider environment.
Following completion of the scaffold erection, asbestos removal, soft strip and back propping, the demolition works could progress on a floor-by-floor basis, all whilst retaining the beautiful stucco front façade, and part of the rear façade.
Our work on the project concluded in the summer of 2014 and the building was handed over to the follow-on trades.
