A sensitive demolition within the heart of the City of London

Working on behalf of GE Capital, McGee is in the process of completing the demolition works at 98 Fetter Lane in the heart of the City of London.

McGee’s work on the project commenced in March 2014 which initially saw the completion of all pre-demolition works, enabling works, asbestos removal and soft strip.

The demolition of the 1950’s, 7-storey building – previously used as office accommodation and a printing works – was carried out in a traditional manner on a floor-by-floor basis.

Due to the site being surrounded by a mix of retail, residential, commercial properties and prospective development sites, our in-house neighbourhood liaison team has been keeping the local community fully informed of the works.  To help minimise the impact of the works on the surrounding area, the site’s logistics has been planned in co-ordination with other developments which lie in close proximity to the site.

As is the case with all our sites, the daily monitoring of vibration, dust and noise is being undertaken.

All concrete and brick arising is being processed on site and recycled to form the new piling mat.  This means the realisation of both cost and environmental benefits due to minimised lorry movements.

McGee’s work on the project is planned to be completed in early 2015 in readiness for the site’s future development.
