Floor by floor and surgical demolition of the 1940’s office building at 4-5 Princes Gate

The existing 1940’s 8-storey office building located at 4-5 Princes Gate in Knightsbridge required demolition to make way for new, luxury residential apartments, complete with underground parking.

McGee was enlisted by our client, Hill Spink, to carry out the decontamination and subsequent soft strip and top-down demolition of the building – one floor at a time. Great care had to be taken in dealing with the respective party walls; therefore a careful surgical demolition was carried out in these areas.

The demolition arising was loaded off-site by use of a tower crane.

Due to the site being located within close proximity of offices and residential buildings, great emphasis was put on neighbourhood liaison and environmental monitoring. This meant regular communication with local tenants and third parties to ensure the local neighbourhood was well informed of the works.

The project was awarded the Considerate Contractor Scheme (CCS) Bronze Award in 2012.
