Yesterday McGee’s project at 1 New Street Square was awarded a Silver Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) National Site Award.
The National Site Awards are presented to the highest performing registered sites and are an opportunity for the industry to get together and celebrate its achievements in improving the image of construction.
Every award-winning site demonstrated a true commitment to considerate construction, and as a result, has greatly benefited communities, the workforce and the environment.
This year the Scheme presented 797 awards, the highest numbers of awards ever presented to registered sites:
- 387 Bronze Awards
- 280 Silver Awards
- 98 Gold Awards
- 31 Most Considerate Site Runners-up
- 1 Most Considerate Site
The Silver level Award recognises McGee’s considerate practices and high standards in terms of the environment, the workforce and the general public. The site scored an impressive 42/50. Top marks were awarded for the Safety and Environmental Categories, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to Health, Safety and the Environment.
The assessor noted that: “This Demolition Contract sets a high standard that others should be following. The appearance of the site remains excellent with works now approaching completion. Community links are now excellent and with head office contact details prominently displayed. Protecting the environment remains exceptional, because of the high standards the Company is achieving. Safety continues to be an exceptional standard, proved by the low numbers of accidents recorded. Demolition is a trade which in the past has had a poor safety record. Caring for the workface is at an excellent standard with training and recruitment into the industry being particularly commendable. Congratulations to the whole team.”
Brian Haughton, Contracts Manager was presented with the award yesterday, on the 23rd April, which took place at Plaisterers’ Hall, One London Wall.
The project team and everyone at McGee are delighted to see this major project getting Silver Award recognition.
Brian said: “We are committed to changing the perceptions of our industry and to receive a Silver National Site Award in acknowledgement of the entire team’s efforts is a tremendous accolade.”
The project required McGee to carry out decontamination, demolition and civil engineering works in readiness for a new development – from asbestos removal and soft strip to the demolition of the existing buildings and extensive groundworks to prepare the site for the next phase of construction.
The site continues to be transformed and is set to become a major new extension to New Street Square – one of the most exciting mixed-use developments to be completed by Land Securities in recent years.
