McGee donates minibus to save local charity’s homeless food missions

McGee Group has donated a new minibus to Friends of the Homeless, a charity that delivers food to homeless people in Central London.

Volunteers from the charity, based at the immaculate Heart of Mary Church, in Botwell Lane, Hayes, have been driving to the
Embankment area every friday for more than 20 years.

They prepare food donated by local supermarkets before taking the hot meals and drinks to homeless people as well as distributing clothes in the winter months.

The charity was at risk of having to stop the trips because their old vehicle did not meet low emissions standards. Vehicles which exceed the standard are liable to pay an unsuitable charge.

On Saturday, McGee’s handed the charity the keys to a new 15-seater mini bus, allowing it to continue its special deed.

McGee Group employee Jack Warner has been driving for the charity for the last two years.

He said “We have a lot of people who depend on us, so this is a real lifeline. It is an excellent cause, and we are all very grateful to McGee’s for giving us the new minibus.”
