4-5 Princess Gate, Kensington – Project Win

McGee has secured a new project in Kensington.

Hill Spink’s 4-5 Princess Gate is located opposite Hyde Park and runs parallel to Kensington Road. McGee is contracted to; remove all asbestos and any other contaminated materials, demolish the existing 9-storey building including the ground-floor slab, construct a retaining wall and columns and install party wall shoring and temporary propping.

The planned duration of this contract is 24 weeks and site set up was established on 30th June. A timber perimeter hoarding at the front of the site will serve as a demarcation between site activities and the public. McGee’s in-house asbestos department will survey, remove and dispose of all asbestos prior to the soft strip.

After careful consideration the decision was made to demolish the building using a tower crane, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Measures are also being taken to eliminate dust, noise and vibration from mass material movement and all possible recycling will be carried out at our own dedicated depots.

Ian became Executive Chairman of the McGee Group in 2007.

Ian’s previous experience includes The Cleveland Group of Companies, incorporating Cleveland Bridge and Dorman Long Companies Worldwide, where he was President and Chief Executive Officer. Ian was founder and Chairman of High-Point Rendel Group plc and led the development of this multi-disciplinary group of companies specialising in business, management and engineering technology consultancy, with a network of offices in Europe, Africa, Middle East, USA, Indian Sub Continent and Asia Pacific.

Ian is a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors and Fellow of the Institute of Directors. He is a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Constructors and a Freeman of the City of London. He was made a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2003 for his service to business and charity.

The removal of asbestos contaminated materials had to be carried out while keeping the station fully operational. The removal of the sprayed insulation to the soffit of the cab service road had to be completed while keeping the road in service throughout the works. To accomplish this, a specially designed working deck was constructed and installed.
