This evening McGee welcomed more than 80 guests from across the property and construction industry to a behind-the-scenes tour and presentation of their work at the exclusive Claridge’s Hotel.
This challenging and ambitious scheme involving the excavation and construction of a 5-storey iceberg basement under the existing live 5* landmark hotel located within the Mayfair area of London has required constant monitoring for movements, noise and vibration as the basements beneath the iconic building are excavated and constructed without any interruption to the services within the hotel above.
Enjoying refreshments and canapés courtesy of the Claridge’s catering team; guests were invited to a presentation of the project by Senior Project Engineer, Michelle Mackey, and took the opportunity to walk around the newly constructed basement at B1 level which boasts a 20-metre swimming pool. McGee is proud to mark this major milestone in partnership with project engineers, Arup.
Many said that this project “couldn’t be done”. McGee sees Claridge’s as the scheme that sets the standard for other multi-level basement construction projects, providing new possibilities for clients looking for a major redevelopment of their sites whilst remaining fully operational.
