McGee is involved in so many iconic projects and prestigious buildings and that is the reason why the company appealed so much to me. Tamil UddinEnvironmental and Sustainability Manager July 2010 – Present
Following completion of a BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering Degree, I first joined McGee on a 10 week placement, which provided me with invaluable site experience that would set the foundations of my career within the construction industry. This opportunity led on to being offered a permanent position with the company which allowed me to develop my career and focus on the environmental and sustainability side of the industry – an area I have always found incredibly interesting! Today, as a specialist in Project Environmental Management, I am regularly working on a diverse range of high profile complex projects across the Capital. Exciting opportunities to champion new environmental and sustainability initiatives often arise and I continue to expand my knowledge of the industry through the undertaking of specialist training and attendance of external seminars and conferences.
William JamesDemolition Project Manager September 2014 - Present
I joined McGee’s Graduate Programme in 2014 having achieved a BSc in Project Management for Construction at University College London. We work across a number of sectors and operate a diverse project portfolio, providing exposure to a variety of high profile projects located in the heart of London – and this was what originally attracted me most to apply for the McGee Graduate Programme. Over the last few years I have worked on a number of large scale demolition projects and have been given real responsibility in which I’ve developed skills in demolition, temporary works, programming, resource management and financial planning to name a few. McGee has continued to invest in my professional development since day one and continue to offer a wide range of support and training to help develop my skills. Throughout the Programme I’ve been supported by experienced industry professionals who are always willing to offer guidance and share their specialist knowledge; making McGee a great place to work.
Keith GallagherCivil Engineer February 2016 - Present
Working at McGee has provided me with the opportunity of working alongside some of the most experienced people in the construction industry, while working on two of McGee’s many prestigious projects. Since joining the company in February 2016 I have worked on two of London’s deepest ever excavations, which has been challenging and enjoyable, but also enabled me to gain lots of invaluable civils experience in a short space of time. As well as this, the company and management have been supportive to me in terms of ongoing training, both informal and industry-recognised, which encourages continual professional development, and at the same time offering opportunity for progression within the company.
Tara ShannonQuantity Surveyor September 2014 - Present
I joined McGee through the 2014 Graduate Programme and I haven’t looked back. It has been an honour to work with so many experienced people, many of whom have worked for McGee for decades. Every single day I am learning and I have a great support network from my mentor and the other graduates. I have had the privilege of working on one of McGee’s most prestigious projects which has involved the demolition of the well-known London West End Odeon Cinema. The groundworks phase was particularly exciting, requiring the excavation of a 30-metre deep basement – equivalent to six storeys underground. The location and the size of the site as well as the depth of the excavation, has made this project a unique engineering challenge. To have the opportunity to work on such high profile projects for such well known clients is one of the main reasons for my application to McGee. McGee is supporting me through my Chartership and further training to help me achieve my professional goals and to allow me to flourish in this exciting industry!
Ioannis ThalassinakisCivil Engineer 2014 - Present
I joined McGee in 2014, participating in the four year rotational Civil Engineering Graduate Programme - giving me the opportunity to see the complete lifecycle of a project from the design to the construction. My colleagues supported me in my first steps as an Engineer and made me feel immediately part of the site team. During my first nine months I was based at a project which required the transformation of a historical building to luxury apartments in one of the most famous neighbourhoods of London - Chelsea. I had the opportunity to see a wide array of procedures taking place on site from demolition, façade retention and temporary works to groundworks, piling and reinforced concrete/steel frame construction. My professional development continues to flourish through a wide variety of training courses. The professional mentoring which McGee provides encourages me to work effectively towards my ICE Chartership. If you are looking for early responsibilities in a challenging working environment with great motivational people, McGee is the company you are looking for.
